|This is my page with pictures of Castle Henkenshage. Castle Henkenshage used to be called Hanekens hage in the 14 th century . Haneken was in that time the name for "John". An "hage" was a settlement with a thorn hedge. In the 15 th century the Castle was also known as
Castle Strijpe or Castle Streepen. In 1940 the Castle came in possesion of the City. During World war 2 the castle served as a distribution point and in 1944 it was the headquarter of the 101 st Airborne Division.
