What are HDR pictures you will think? HDR stands for "High Dynamic Range". High Dynamic Range pictures are 32-bits pictures but how does it work?
For this example we take 5 pictures, but we will use different exposures (from a tripod, we don`t want any movement). We take the 5 pictures, the first one we take with two stops underexposure, the next one we take with one stop underexposur, then a good exposed picture, then a picture with one stop overexposure and one picture with two stops overexposure. You can also take just 3 pictures (-2, 0 ,+2 ) but more is better. It has to be in balance though the overexposed and underexposued pictures. whats is important is that you take the pictures in RAW or in Tiff (jpeg doesnt work!).
Now we will merge these 5 pictures into just 1 photo, thats is gonna become our hdr-picture. There are 2 way: In Photoshop using File/Automate/Merge to HDR or using a programm called Photomatix. That software can be found here: Photomatix
After we merged these 5 pictures into a single picture, a 32-bits picture, we need are going to use the tonemapping tool, what will give the picture the typical HDR-look. This can be done in Photomatix ( or you can use a plugin for Photoshop if you have that). Tonemapping is kind of a filter enhancing the colours wich gives you more dynamic range in that picture.
The results are from pretty natural to almost a drawing. I think you like it or really dislike it...
