| Castle Valkenburg is the only Castle on a hill in the Netherlands. The Castle was build by Gosewijn the 1st in 1115 on the Heunsmountain near the river Geul. Because of several conflicts with the German Emperor the castle was destroyed several times, but every time rebuild. In 1672 Willem 3 blows up the castle, because of the strategic importance of the castle. Openingshours:
